Ferrari F40 LM: A look back
Few cars sound as pissed off as a Ferrari F40 LM, the gut wrenching rawness of this car evokes such a passion out of an enthusiast, that if you don’t feel anything, well you my friend are not a true auto enthusiast. Like a beast trying to escape from it’s 3.0L twin turbo V8 cage, this car screams! A mixture of a werewolf and a vampire being tortured in a dungeon at the same time! Listen to the video and tell me I am wrong ![]()
Even by todays standards, with around a 600bhp rating this car still stands out. Michelotto of Padova was commissioned to develop this car for competition in the LeMans Series. Sporting a reinfored chassis, more aggressive bodywork, an in car adjustable rear wing, stiffer suspension, larger brakes, racing gearbox and wider wheels prepared this car for its intended use. To Race! This was a car, that for just about every kid who had a subscription to Car and Driver, they also had a poster of it on their wall. They laid in bed at night dreaming of it, hoping one day at least see it in person, let alone ride in one or be one of the fortunate few to own one. Many standard F40 owners have upgraded their cars to look like the F40 LM… but dont be fooled, there are only 17 true LM’s in the world and chances are you wont see them out too often,
At over 20 years old now, this car still weighs in less than a current Mini Cooper, has timeless lines and with a powerplant capable of pushing to 220+ mph…well, all is still well in the automotive world as long as younger designers have works of art, like this Ferrari F40 LM, inspiring them.
